7yr-old boy becomes Britain's youngest skydiver after 9,000ft jump

London, Sep 9 (ANI): A 7-year-old Brit boy has become Britain's youngest skydiver after jumping from 9,000ft over Lake Bled, while on holiday in Slovenia.

But young Tom Hayes is not the only one, as his 8-year-old sister Lucy set the record for the youngest female skydiver in Britain after she did a tandem skydive from a Cessna 206 turbo aircraft.

Children under 16 are not allowed to skydive in Britain, and the pair amazed their friends at school after they told them that they had jumped out of a plane.

"It was really fun, but quite scary. It felt like my heart was in my tummy," Times Online quoted Tom, from Sawston, Cambridgeshire, as saying.

"All my friends were really shocked when I told them and now they want to have a go," he said.

The children jumped with their father, Peter, 54.

He and his wife, Sara, 38, are experienced skydivers, and have made more than 2,000 jumps between them.

"We were on holiday in Slovenia and the children were very keen to have a go at skydiving, so we decided to let them," Peter said.

"When I did my last jump in 2003 I never thought that one day I would jump again with my children.

"I had retired from skydiving but this was too good an opportunity to miss and both Tom and Lucy loved it.

"As far as I know Tom is now the youngest ever skydiver in the UK," he said.

Peter, who has been skydiving for more than 30 years, met his wife at a skydiving club and their house is covered with photos of the sport.

"We haven't done much jumping since the children were born but there are photos and videos in the house and we've talked about it a lot," he revealed.

"The children have grown up knowing a lot about skydiving and they were very keen and enthusiastic to give it a try," he stated.

Tom and Lucy, a keen horse rider, were both filmed doing their tandem jumps, and although they were a little nervous, they really enjoyed it.

"Mum and Dad told me skydiving was great and I thought it would be exciting, so I decided to give it a try," Lucy said.

"It was absolutely amazing and I loved every minute of it.

"All my friends thought I was very brave and I would definitely do it again," she said.

Sara, who gave up skydiving after the children were born, said she had no concerns about the children jumping out of the plane.

"I certainly don't think it was dangerous, they were in very capable hands," she said.

"I just knew they would enjoy it and they were more confident than any other tandem passengers I have ever seen," she recalled.

Peter added: "They were very relaxed and had big smiles on their faces." (ANI)
