Bangladeshi Army chief to receive 6 horses gift from General Kapoor
New Delhi, Feb 25 (ANI): On his first visit to India, Bangladeshi Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed will get a set of six horses as a gift from his Indian counterpart General Depaak Kapoor.
During his six-day visit to India, General Moeen will get two Hanoverian stallion horses and four mares.
Lt General Narayan Mohanty, director general of the Indian army’s Remount and Veterinary Corp had said: “The Bangladesh army told us that they need breeding stock for promoting equestrian sports and we selected the six horses suited for this purpose. This is the first time that we are gifting our breeding stock to any country.”
The horses worth around four crore rupees will be transported to Haridaspur-Benapole border.
“The gift is an effort to cement ties between the two countries as well as a goodwill gesture between the two armies. It will go a long way in improving bilateral relations,” The Daily Star quoted Mohanty, as saying.
During his stay in India, General Moeen will also pay courtesy visit to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Defence Minister A K Antony and will meet all the three Indian defence services chiefs.
General Moeen and his wife are also likely to visit Ajmer Sharif and the Taj Mahal.
It may be recalled that earlier General Moeen visit had to be called off at the last minute after severe floods struck Bangladesh. (ANI)
