Campaigning in full swing in Nagaland and Meghalaya
Kohima/Shillong, Feb 25 (ANI): Campaigning in the north eastern Indian states of Nagaland and Meghalaya is on in full swing, and Monday was no different.
The ongoing Angami festival in Nagaland has provided both candidates and voters a hance to intermingle.About 13 lakh voters are to determine the future of 218 candidates contesting for the 60 assembly seats in Nagaland.
Only Congress has fielded candidates for all constituencies. Nagaland People’s Front, NPF, the leading party of Democratic Alliance of Nagaland, DAN – which was in power during last four years and nine months, is contesting 56 seats. NPF is supporting the BJP in two other seats while for the remaining two seats it has not declared any preference.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal has fielded the third highest number of candidates- 25, followed by the Bharatiya Janta Party – BJP – 23. Among the other parties, Nationalist Congress Party, NCP – has fielded 8 candidates, JD(S) four candidates, JD(U) and LJP 3 each, UNDP two and APP 1 candidate. 33 Independent Candidates are also in the fray.
In Meghalaya, allegations and counter allegations are on among the political parties to woe the voters for the coming assembly polls. The state goes to polls on March 3 and counting will take place on March 7.
The eighth Meghalaya Legislative Assembly is to be constituted by March 10.(ANI)
