Chosar (Gujarat), Nov 2 (ANI): About 200 ready-to-get-married bachelors are sulking, as they can't find their brides. No one is ready to marry their daughters with these eligible men living at Chosar village in Gujarat, which has literally turned into a chemical dump yard coming from industrial units.

Untreated effluent and industrial waste is illegally discharged in the Kharikat canal flowing through the village by chemical factories in Vatva GIDC, just 30 kilometres away.

People from other villages do not want to marry their daughters to these bachelors, as they don't want them to live in this living hell.

" People from other villages refuse to marry their daughters to our boys in the village by saying there is no water and no other facility. If a flood comes all the ways are blocked. The government doesn't listen to us," said Thakur Puran Singh, a resident.

The air in the village smells foul and the toxic waste from the open drains seeps through the ground and mixes with drinking water. The villagers say they are not able to drink the water drawn from a nearby well.

They say the water looks yellowish and reddish and they buy packaged mineral water if they have some important guests coming into their houses.

Discharge of untreated chemicals in the canal is spoiling the groundwater quality in other villages too but Chosar has been hit ard. Pollutants in groundwater are also affecting villagers' cattle and farm produce. (ANI)
