Computer glitch turns carpenter into an overnight millionaire

Submitted by admin on Sat, 10/17/2009 - 06:00

Ahmedabad, Oct 16(ANI): A thirty-two-year old carpenter recently got a surprise of his life, when he became an overnight millionaire, thanks to a computer glitch of bank.

Jugal Kishore Jangid, who earns Rs.7000 per month, had gone to withdraw money in order to pay his employees on Thursday (Oct. 15), when he realized that his account balance had expanded from Rs.250,000 to Rs.59,30,00,000.

However, instead of making hay of the situation, Jangid acknowledged that some technical error might have caused the untoward incident and exhibited his honesty by approaching right people to solve issue.

"People told me that it is Dhanteras, a day when goddess Lakshmi is worshipped. I told them that I do not want this money and I just want my hard earned money to be returned to me," Jangid said.

Jangid then visited a chartered accountant, who directed him to the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI).

"He asked for help as he got scared not only of losing his money but of getting involved into a legal wrangle. So, we spoke to the bank authorities and asked them that his money should be returned to him immediately otherwise his Diwali will get spoiled," said Samir Patel, GCCI vice president.

Patel further said that the chamber of commerce is planning to honour Jangid for setting an example for others to follow and it has also asked Punjab National Bank, where the error took place, to appreciate the act. By Uday Adhvaryu (ANI)
