Delhi Govt. orders probe into school stampede
New Delhi, Sep 10 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday ordered an inquiry into the tragic death of five students following a stampede at a government school located in East Delhi due to rumours of short circuit caused by heavy rain.
According to souses, Dikshit ordered the probe after taking stock of the situation and meeting the critically injured students, who are being treated in the Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Hospital.
The government has also postponed a Cabinet meeting in view of the incident.
A large number of police personnel have been deployed outside the school to avoid any confrontation with the angry onlookers.
The incident took place in a Government Senior Secondary School located in the Khajoori Khas locality.
According to sources, the stamped took place after students were asked to vacate the classroom following rumours of short circuit in the water-logged in the compound.
Over 30 students, who have sustained injuries in the stampede, are being treated in a nearby GTB government hospital. (ANI)
