Lahore, Oct 27(ANI): The Lahore High Court has allowed the lawyer of Sarabjit Singh, the Indian currently on death row in a Pakistani prison, to hold a meeting with him.
Earlier, Sarabjit’s lawyer, Awais Sheikh, had stated in the court that he was not allowed to meet his client despite court orders. He had also filed a petition against the Interior Secretary of Punjab and Superintendent of Kot Lakhpat jail.
The court has given permission to Sheikh to meet Sarabjit in the presence of a representative of the special branch, The News reports.
Sarabjit has been on death row since he was convicted of alleged involvement in four bomb blasts in Pakistan’s Punjab province that killed 14 people in 1990. His family insists that he was wrongly convicted for the bombings.
Though he was to be hanged on April 1 last year, Pakistani authorities put off his execution indefinitely after Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani intervened in the matter. (ANI)
