Major fire in Kolkata’s biggest wholesale market
Kolkata, Jan 12 (ANI): A major fire broke out in a section of Burrabazar, the city’s biggest wholesale market in the early hours of Saturday, gutting several buildings housing tarpaulin and cloth shops.
According to sources, altogether 34 fire-tenders have been trying to douse the flames that started in a house on Jamnalal Bajaj Street at about 2 a.m..
Shortage of water supply from the nearby Mullickghat pumping station to the area due to power cut compounded the problem for fire-fighters, the sources said.
There was no report of any injury or casualty.
The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. (ANI)
