Man U's Ferguson takes a dig at another referee

Submitted by admin on Tue, 10/27/2009 - 02:41

London, Oct 26(ANI): Just days after being charged with improper conduct by the FA for his fitness related attack on referee, Alan Wiley, Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson tore into another referee at Anfield.

Ferguson insisted that referee Andre Marriner was influenced by Liverpool fans at Anfield, where Liverpool silenced Man U and critics with a pulsating 2-0 victory to revive their Premier League title hopes.

"We lost out to one or two major decisions. Carragher in the first-half was a penalty kick. He has clearly gone over the top of the ball on Carrick. But the one everyone will be talking about is when he brought Owen down on the edge of the box," The Sun quoted Ferguson, as saying.

"He's their best defender, so if he goes off, it would have been difficult for them. Their fans were fanatical, and every decision they put the ref under pressure," he added.

Ferguson further said that Man U had to face some tough decisions in a match, which saw both teams end with 10 men.

"Look at the booking of Patrice Evra after Torres clipped his own heels. The atmosphere around it forced the ref to book him. With Vidic, it was a foul but the crowd got him booked for it," Ferguson said.

"This atmosphere is hard to handle for a ref. Whether he had enough experience or not, I don't know," he added. (ANI)
