Submitted by admin on Mon, 03/15/2010 - 04:33

Patna, March 14 (ANI): A large number of girls and boys participated in a marathon organised for women empowerment here on Sunday (March 14).

Former queen of Indian track and field and winner in various international events, P.T Usha, flagged off the marathon in which a large number of girls from the city enthusiastically participated.

"Here in Patna, the participation is more, which shows people here are talented. One should be encouraged at the grassroots level, which will attract more athletes towards sports," said P. T Usha on this occasion.

Ms. P.T Usha was also scheduled to meet State chief minister Nitish Kumar, Rashtriya Janata Dal President Lalu Prasad and Lok Janashakti President Ram Vilas Paswan.

Though the event was hosted for the cause of women empowerment, it also saw participation of a number of boys showing equal enthusiasm.

"This marathon was organised for Women empowerment, which means women should progress in every field. As women are receiving reservation in every sector, with this marathon we want to make all the women aware that we should do something for our own development. Self-development is necessary for women empowerment. Today besides us, men are also participating to support women empowerment," said Sneha Kumari, one of the paticipants.

Among other distinguished guests present on this occasion were RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav who cheered all participants. (ANI)
