Angus&Cheryl, a short-form computer animated comedy series about a boy, a girl and the unending gender rivalry between they and their friends, has been licensed for distribution internationally by Nickelodeon. Previously reported as one of many increasingly popular animated interstitials that make their way through international co-producers, ultimately snagging distribution deals on both minor and major networks, Angus&Cheryl now makes headlines after signing its first-ever, major broadcast deal. Co-produced by BRB Internacional (Iron Kid, Backkom Series, The Imp), Screen 21, Televisió de Catalunya and Tuba Entertainment, the series has been specifically designed to easily adapt to mobile videogames, blogs, phones, podcasts and virtual communities.
Offering young audiences screwball examples of what happens when boys and girls are granted free reign in their battle of the sexes, Angus&Cheryl has previously gone into development as spearheaded by BRB Internacional of Spain in addition to having been sold to Radio Canada very, very recently [past A.I. news: "'Angus & Cheryl': Battle of the Sexes" (10/2006); recent: "'Angus & Cheryl' CG Shorts Sold to North America" (06/2007)].
In recent news, BRB Internacional looks to have the computer animations distributed to a variety of European and Latin American territories upon the television series' release this fall season. Angus&Cheryl, currently in production for minute-and-a-half animated shorts, uses the quirkiness of its character's behavior as well as a great deal of physical comedy to sell its creative appeal to youth and teenage audiences. The daily war of boys versus girls has never been animated.
"We're excited to be partnering with BRB Internacional for the first time and Angus&Cheryl carries all the key qualities we look for in Nickelodeon content and programming," Jules Borkent, Vice President, Programming, Nickelodeon International commented in a recent press release. "The show is fun, has cross-gender appeal with strong characters and it's multi-platform attributes give it that extra orange edge. I'm really looking forward to introducing Angus&Cheryl to our audiences around the world this autumn."
While BRB Internacional regards Angus&Cheryl to be "100% Nickelodeon," Angus&Cheryl will be broadcast in Spain, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Portugal, Latin America, Scandinavia, Switzerland and Holland, whereas the Holland Nickelodeon broadcast will be in an open-broadcast format. Nickelodeon, the most widely distributed kids' network in the world and a very comfortable home to original and diverse television animation, anticipates a great reception for this title.
