Goa tense after clash between police and legislators

Panaji, Feb 20 (ANI): Goa's Taleigao constituency remained tense on Wednesday, hours after police failed to act against goons who had attacked a football player.

Earlier, former Minister and Taleigao constituency legislator Atanasio Monserratte, Panaji Mayor Tony Rodrigues and Jenifer Monseratte were arrested for instigating a mob to attack the Panaji Police Station and setting three vehicles on fire.

Trouble began when Ryan Goudinho, a Tata football academy trainee and Goa state player, was brutally assaulted outside his residence in Taleigao by goons.

Police arrested two persons only after Monserratte questioned police officers over their delayed action in the matter.

The situation went out of control when supporters of Monserratte pelted stones at the police station.

Police resorted to a baton charge and fired tear gas to disperse the mob. (ANI)
