High Court acquits Baloch leader of treason charges

Quetta, Sep 26 (ANI): The Balochistan High Court (BHC) has acquitted Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) President Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal in a treason case.

BHC Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai issued the order while disposing of Mengal's application to quash a first information report (FIR) registered against him.

The FIR was registered with Civil Lines police station after Mengal's alleged anti-state speech delivered on Manan Chowk on April 2, 2006.

Mengal pleaded that the BHC had quashed an FIR with similar charges against former Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) leader Amanullah Kanrani.

The court also adjourned the hearing of four other treason cases against Mengal for a week.

It also adjourned the hearing of four treason cases against BNP-M General Secretary Habib Jalib advocate for a week, the Daily Times reported. (ANI)
