Talent hunt for Formula one drivers in Nagaland

Submitted by admin on Tue, 02/09/2010 - 06:05

Kohima, Feb 8 (ANI): The search for future Formula one drivers like Narain Karthikeyan, Karun Chandok and Armaan Ebrahim has begun in the Northeast in right earnest.

Recently a talent hunt was organized in Nagaland with the aim to provide exposure and opportunities to young and adventurous motorsport drivers.

The Nagaland chapter of the ongoing talent search programme for the young motorsport enthusiasts in Northeast was held at Dimapur in Nagaland.

The event was organized by the Nagaland Adventure and Motor Sports Association (NAMSA) in association with JK Tyres, MECO Motorsport and the Nagaland Government.

The search to promote talent that starts from Northeast will take place in other parts of the country as well.

"What we need to do is give them the exposure and teach them the right techniques to learn the trait. Only then, you can see what sort of talent and potential they got," said Akbar Ebrahim, Head of MECO Motor sport.

"In this workshop, we are targeting for the upcoming Formula 1 drivers in India. We are giving this opportunity to Nagaland," said Vickshi, President NAMSA.

Two days intensive coaching and training programmes were also conducted which attracted many sports enthusiasts from different age groups in the region.

Three-boys in the age group of 11-17 years were selected after the NH-39 Go-karting competition.

These boys will be given the opportunity to undertake three full-fledged training programmes under the expert guidance of the MECO Motorsport and race in the future JK Tyre professional Indian National Rotax Carting championship. By Peter Chachei (ANI)
