Torres needed pain killing jabs to take part in Liverpool-Man U clash

Submitted by admin on Wed, 10/28/2009 - 00:42

London, Oct. 27 (ANI): Spanish striker Fernando Torres has said that he needed pain killing injections for his damaged groin while taking part in Liverpool's victory match against Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

After scoring the opener on Sunday to help end a run of four straight defeats, Torres revealed he had been inspired to go through the pain barrier by teammate Steven Gerrard.

"I wasn't 100 per cent fit but I wanted to play and it was worth it. We knew it was going to be a risk and I felt some pain in some of my movements beforehand. I just wanted to play so much. When the team is losing and not playing well, it is so hard to watch. You just want to help, and during the game it was actually okay. It was like Stevie in the Champions League. He wanted to play - he wasn't fit but he is the leader of the team," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

Now Torres, 25, feels beating United, with a crocked Gerrard watching from the stands, has given the Reds more belief they can down anyone - whoever is in the Liverpool side.

He added: "We knew this was a massive game as we needed to win to keep our chances alive in the title race. We had to play as a team and keep working hard. When we play as a unit we can beat anyone." (ANI)
