US marines unearth al-Qaeda’s torture complex in Iraq
London, Dec 21 (ANI): US marines and Iraqi forces have found a complex used by al Qaeda to torture people near the town of Muqdadiyah in Diyala province.
During the joint operation codenamed ‘Operation Iron Reaper’, conducted earlier this month, the troops discovered the ‘torture complex’ and found remains of 26 persons buried in the vicinity of the hideout used by al Qaeda fighters.
“In the same area a torture complex was found, consisting of three detention facilities with one doubling as both a headquarters building and torture facility,” the Telegraph quoted a statement released by US marines.
“The buildings contained chains on the walls and ceilings, a bed still hooked up to an electrical system, and several blood-stained items,” the statement added.
The marines also claimed of getting evidences of murder, torture and intimidation perpetrated by al Qaeda fighters against local villagers in the area. (ANI)
